The Cayman Islands is a nation frequently referenced in film and television. The film industry tends to reference this country when discussing business and finance, why is this?

As the business world continues to become an increasingly competitive environment, several nations across the globe are aiming to make it as easy as possible for foreign businesses to set up branches in their country. When looking where to plant their business, companies are on the lookout for countries with flexible policies, such as lower start-up capital requirements, tax exemptions, and other policies that make it easy to set up a business. The film industry tends to highlight one of the business world's leading countries with such flexible policies, the Cayman Islands.

The Cayman Islands is a self-governing British Overseas Territory, located in the Western Caribbean Seas. This territory comprises three islands, Little Cayman, Cayman Brac, and the most populous, Grand Cayman. The islands are south of Cuba and northeast of Honduras, just between Jamaica and Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. More and more businesses continue to move to the Cayman Islands, here is why:

The Business Environment

The Cayman Islands is home to more than 90,000 registered businesses, housing more businesses than its population! The Cayman Islands appeals to multinational companies in several ways, including because of its stable economic and political climate. Furthermore, the islands have a modern infrastructure, easy exchange controls, and good communication systems. Its responsive and business-friendly government and sound legal system aid in its popularity among the business world.

Tax Haven

On February 8th, 1749, in an incident called the Wreck of the Ten Sail, Caymanians rescued the crews from ten merchant ships. This group of ships struck a reef and ran aground during rough seas. King George III of England rewarded the Caymanians for their generous act by promising to never introduce taxes on the islands. He did this because one of the ships carried a member of the King’s own family. To this day the country is a tax-neutral offshore business environment, absent of all direct taxations. On the islands, there is no corporate or personal income tax. Businesses and individuals do not have to pay taxes on their investment gains and profits. There is also no property tax.

Location

Surrounded by the beautiful waters of the Caribbean Seas, the country is quite accessible to several other nations. The Cayman Islands is about a three-hour plane ride to and from Miami, Florida. There are also over 50 flights per week from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada to Cayman.

Professionalism & Diversity

Many of the individuals who work in the Cayman Islands business environment are highly educated. Conducting business on the islands is made simpler as English is the official language. However, the Cayman Islands hosts a very diverse workforce. Individuals of many different nationalities come to work there. The islands provide the opportunity for multinational cooperation and partnerships. It also allows individuals to immerse themselves in the culture of the Cayman Islands and several other nations.

Although it is difficult to set up a business in any new country, the Cayman Islands makes it easier to do so than most other nations. Hopefully, now you understand why it is heavily referenced in film and popular in the business world.
