The 2022 November midterm election is one of the most significant midterm elections in history. Taxes and inflation have been a popular political topic that may define the sort of political party that a citizen stands with.
The midterm election and presidential election are said to have equal importance to the country. In the midterm election, the most significant part is focused on the voting of Congress. The House of Representative and the Senate majority party control the agenda of Washington D.C., thus impacting if the president can go along with his/her agenda depending on if his or her party controls Congress.
2022 has been an interesting year as the economy has continued to fluctuate. The economy has been one of the most important factors during election time.
There are many instances where those who are said to be moderate in the past have converted to a more republican-conservative approach due to the high prices the USA has seen under the Biden administration compared to the cheaper prices under the Trump administration. In a CNN poll, researchers found that inflation is one of the most important topics for voters in the midterm election. Many are dissatisfied with the current condition of the economy.
The state of the economy has proven to be a very important aspect when it comes to voting. Many who are not able to live comfortably are now voting Republican because they are said to “understand money better” than the Democratic counterpart.
Gas prices are another aspect of the economy which voters usually see as a factor in their decision of political party. The average gas price in the U.S. was said to hit a record high of $5.06 per gallon in June. This price has definitely gone down since summer, but it still plays a big role in people’s expenses. Even though gas prices are not in the control of the government, the myth that governments can dictate gas prices definitely has an impact on political parties. If the election was any earlier than November, the effects of gas prices on the election would have been even more evident.
These important factors show how necessary it is to vote to choose how the government will function until the next midterm election. The leaders elected will support the ideas of the people, so voting will be in the peoples’ best interest only.
