Noite Rose is a small business founded by Diandra Harvin. Born in North Carolina, Harvin went to college in Ohio as an undergraduate, and she went on to receive her masters in business with a focus in marketing from the University of Tampa. Harvin finally settled in Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband. Noite Rose is a small business brand she founded that specializes in comfortable garment wear for all women.

Q: What is the best career advice you have ever received?

The best career advice Diandra Harvin has ever received is that fostering relationships with mentors is very important. Having a lot of different connections and networking is very beneficial, even though it can start off as uncomfortable or awkward. Try to get out of your comfort zone and get the conversation going—awkwardness shouldn’t discourage you.

Q: How important is it to define yourself?

Diandra believes it is everything! Knowing yourself, root, core, and value is extremely important. She feels that when different situations try to tempt you, having a handle on who you are can help keep yourself aligned. There are times where you can learn more things about yourself and even redefine yourself. She emphasizes knowing who you are and what your values are.

Q: What inspired you to create Noite Rose?

Diandra and her husband were having brunch during quarantine and Diandra simply wanted to be cute and comfortable in garments—a versatile outfit that can be worn to sit around at home or run errands. Her friend suggested she “just create it” which stuck with Diandra and eventually led her to create Noite Rose. Ultimately, she wanted to boost women’s confidence.

Q: What sets Noite Rose apart from other businesses in the field?

The community of Noite Rose’s goal is to create an intimate environment, committing itself to its high quality and personal connections with consumers. Diandra believes that this sets them apart from other businesses. To achieve this, the engagement on social media serves as an outlet for customer opinion and suggestions.

Q: What is a typical day like at Noite Rose?

There is no typical work day, but it usually looks something like packaging orders that came in from the previous day or evening and go to the post office. Harvin will then respond to emails and check up on the social media accounts to constantly update the followers. Harvin also spends around 30 minutes reaching out to different influencers and news outlets to try and make new connections. Then, there are usually manufacturers and interns that are in new projects.

Q: How were you first introduced to business?

Harvin worked at Nordstrom for two summers while she was in college. This experience was her first introduction to business because she learned about floor plan and customer relations. Harvin also interned during the summer and worked part time with Home Shopping Network (HSN) during her college days. Eventually, Harvin went to another company where she did email marketing and digital marketing. However, HSN reached out again and offered Harvin a marketing position which was a fashion and business opportunity.

Q: What were some struggles you faced as a small business owner?

Harvin struggled in getting back responses from outreach. In addition, she struggled to have confidence when she would exert so much effort that only results in minimal exposure. She sometimes felt discouraged, but looking at what Noite Rose already accomplished has helped to motivate her. As a result, Harvin starts her mornings with affirmations.

Q: What most surprised you about working in the industry?

Harvin feels it is not all about fashion—it is actually more business and the accounting aspect of the industry instead of the textile/manufacturing components. She explains that it is not just being creative with the designs, but having a business mindset simultaneously.

Q: What is the most worthwhile lesson you have learned as a business owner?

The most worthwhile lesson as a business owner Harvin learned is that being a business owner is so rewarding and fulfilling; Harvin feels like it is a mother and child relationship. Noite Rose was able to develop a community, personality, and characteristics because the brand itself is a story.

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, Harvin wants to host in-person events. Her vision of a “sleepover” which is a women empowering event and an uplifting event while also showcasing her clothes. Harvin also wants to travel to different cities to connect with other women as well as to bring out a lot of new collections.

Q: In one word, what is the greatest challenge you have faced this month?

Doubt. Harvin explains that when a couple things don’t go the way it was supposed to, it is easy to doubt if you made the right choice. She says you have to overcome that doubt because doubt is mixed in with fear—you should silence that doubt and focus on the positives and the things that actually work.
