Social media is a way people can talk, create, and share information in virtual communities and networks. About 4.48 billion people use social media worldwide, and about 67% of small businesses use social media to promote their business. Social media is highly beneficial for small businesses because it allows them to share content, attract new customers, and build their brands. If you have any sort of business you need to be able to have social media presence, and this is how.

Set social media goals:

Create goals that can follow the SMART frameworks (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely). Decide the amount of following you want and decide a way to attract consumers and spread your business awareness.

Research the competition:

You want to look for other businesses that sell similar products, so you can see how other businesses are able to attract consumers. While you should not copy other businesses exactly, you can use their strategies for inspiration when starting up your social media account. By researching the competition you are also able to pinpoint the negatives of other businesses, and see how your business can improve and differentiate from others.

Create a timeframe:

Once you start a social media account you need to create a constant schedule. Once your business starts having a following, to keep this following for your business you need to have a timeframe where you post things about your business regularly and in a timely manner. This will also help increase your audience engagement and increase traffic.

Decide what social media platforms would be best:

Depending on what you're selling, you have to see what kind of customers would want the products from your business. Based on the age group of your consumers, you have to determine what platform would be best. If most of your customers are on the younger side you should utilize Tiktok and Instagram for spreading awareness for your business. Contrastingly, if more older adults are your main customers, to spread your business you need to utilize Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Know your audience:

You need to understand your audience for your business. Use social media analytics and understand who’s buying from your business and interacting with your social media account. Once you have understood your audience you can create buyer personas, which will allow you to understand the best forms of communication for your audience.

Build relationships:

Once your business starts having a constant following on your social media platforms you can constantly engage with your audience. This helps to build trust and form a loyal following for your business. Additionally, it builds a loyal community that will lead to ongoing sales and loyal customers.

In this day in age, having a strong social media presence is imperative for businesses to build their brand awareness and increase customer retention.
